As penned down by Lits:
...the excitement was built up with by Ann by her visit on Sat 9th Dec, She came straight to visit me from Mysore (her CISA exam centre was somewhere there....) and then we went for a nice lunch along with Reme.
Later we did some quick shopping at Forum Mall.
That day, Reme and her XIME/i-flex team (that would be Sachin and ARINDAM) participated in an inter corporate DumbC contest and made us all proud by coming third. Way to go Reme!!!!
I woke up to a huge bouquet on on Sunday morning, dominated by pink and purple (yes, my favorite colors)......Sender could be none other than somebody who is sharing my bed for the past 4.5 years......
Not only did Ann surprise me again by visiting me with roses and chocolates but helped me with draping a Sari for my Church visit.
Lunch was with our friends in the old age home, with my favorite granny gifting me a Dairy Milk!
Meanwhile also spoke to Suni, Rebi and Brini ...
Evening met up with HoV gang from Chennai, with Girish(quiz), Vinayak and Dhanya.........Listened to lot of batch gossips (Dhanya, Megraj, Irene, Smitha Sanker etc are getting married etc etc).
Dinner was with Ann Mary (from junior batch) and her husband.
I don't think I ever had such a wonderful day in my life.

From here...to there!
I guess, as one of the first fruits of the illustrius Veloni Spinsters, I should have a lot to talk about the blooming of a young spinster into a mature matron... but I think it's better not to dwell on unplesantness here. Let's talk about the the past, the younger and not to mention much more leaner, fitter days of youth. Not that we are fat now but just, as one said of old, pleasantly plump!
Isn't it amazing how, inspite of wretchedness and apparent pennilessness, the happier things in life are...well...just free. Like love, which today comes anywhere between a platinium credit card to perhaps a private island in the Caribbean.
Flashback to India, to the Venice of the East aka Kerala in India, popularily known as God's own country in the West; it's amazing how the most literate state in the country can still go about pegging the price of the an individual in cash and kind.
Size this-HA-loo, we are a joint family of 32 members living in our ancestral house. My family comes from along line of illustrius ancestors which can be traced back to the middle ages. Not to mention that we have several acres of paddy field, an arack shop and oh yes! we have a pond too, in the middle...so tell us, what can your daughter bring with her???
The poor father of the bride, has to sell an arm or two to get his well-educated and accomplished daughter married to a boy of her stature.
Where does marriage begin and flesh trade end! After all a transaction of such as kind is nothing more than a more glorified form of slave trade under the guise of marriage.
Perhaps it's something to do with the Indian culture. Women were always considered as 'Laxmi', the Indian Goddess of Wealth. She brings blessings and joy when she enters her marital home...
It was taken too literally...and that I think is the where we begin and end at the same time. Nowhere to go forward to as the future is bleak, checkered with dowry haggling and no way to go back and change the past that set this trend.
I feel for my friends who face this dilemma... I wish I could take them back to the simpler and purer days of old...
Hang in girlies!
Men just got lucky...if the tradition was vice-versa those pitiful buggers wouldn't stand a chance at matching the value of a woman
