Shikks as Mrs.Bapat...

ohhh, my dorling bayboos..first of all it's Bapat, not Bhapat or Bapad :) and second, i haven't yet changed my name on my papers...but yes, for all other purposes i'm Shikha Bapat...still getting used to it!

as for pics..i haven't had a chance to upload them onto my laptop yet. we were supposed to fly back to providence from houston yesterday morning but our flight was cancelled due to bad weather. we were then rebooked onto two other flights to boston..the earlier one we were on stand-by and the next flight was confirmed. as luck would have it, we didn't make the stand-by but turns out our bags did...so our luggage was happily on its way to boston. anyway, we then boarded the next flight to boston and after making us sit on the runway for 45 mins, they told us that flight is also being cancelled coz of the weather in boston!

finally, we managed to get on a flight to newark in new jersey (which is about a 3-hour drive from my place) and in true amazing race style, we dragged our cabin bags across multiple terminals and just caught the flight in time. started the drive from new jersey around 9 p.m. last night...by this time, my recovering sore throat and cold intensified..and to top it all, i started feeling nauseous as well thanks to some greasy sandwich they served on the flight. so at around 11 p.m. at night, poor sud had to exit off the highway into some unknown hick town so i could puke. luckily, here you'll find a 24-hour mcdonalds even in the back of beyond, so the restroom there offered some respite from my ordeal. we finally completed our adventure at around 1 a.m. this morning...and i was in for work at 8.30 :P

so right now, i'm baggageless with a runny nose, chumming, and coughing like a sputtering car, all at once...and talking about car, my gaddi is covered under about 10 inches of snow thanks to 2 recent snowstorms..had to ride with a friend to work today. and oh yes, i came back to 1378 emails in my inbox (half of it junk, but still!)...so yipppeee!! and if any of you bayboos had the patience to read through all of my ranting, kudos to you my louelies for being my trusty sounding board :)

still grinning *cough*hack*wheeze*,
shikks

p.s. and my cell phone has completely died on me as well..won't even start up..using sud's temporarily :P

Reminiscence

From the pen of Veloni Su

Litts and her love for Macro economics:

We were all preparing for Dennis Rajkumar's paper Macroenomics, Remi was as usual stuck on her chair and table with Chapter 1, Brini with her coffee from cafe day, Shikks mugging in jet speed on her bunk bed, Ann beautifying herself with some face pack, me on my bed trying to study along with some vague yoga postures. Rebi, this was in first year, where we still considered you a snob.

Our darling Litts was in one of those Moods, where she started to question why did God make her this way, why am I like this and Macroeconomics was the last thing she wanted to study. Anyways, me being the brave one:-), decided to go and motivate darling Litts to prepare for her exam, I always loved advising others and this was something I felt I was pro at. So I chat up with Litts, tried to lighten up her mood, told her about Remi trailing away with Chapter1, and me finishing just 2 chapters and also gave her the fantastic idea of doing combined study with her when she finishes 2 chapters. We were specifically learning about National Expenditure, Consumption and GDP, tried to make it sound exciting to her and told her that she if she puts in exactly one hr, she will be able to finish 2 chapters.

Anyways Litts seemed motivated to me, so she decided to wash her face and then start studying, so I left the room thinking that now I have done my job of motivating her and making her think positive(felt very proud). After exactly an hr, I just came to check on her, and I saw our Litty darling fast asleep on her bed with Chapter 1 open. I felt so bad, all my bashan gone down the drain, it motivated Litty to sleep rather than study:-) Litts, was I so boring? I want to know:-(

Cops Episode in Year 2:

I am sure all of us remember this very clearly, don't want to elaborate on the incident. But one thing I still can't figure out, is why the hell did I cry? I can understand, all of us being scared, but why did I cry????? And Shikks and Remi, I did notice you both trying to look serious and scared in front of me, when I was crying:-) Do you guys remember we almost forgot Brini's b'day when the clock struck 12 and she had to remind us about it, in the midst of the chaos.

Our Morning Routine:

Brini, used to wake up in the wee hours of the morning, take an elaborate bath, adorn herself with her numerous rings and her "Iam so cool" Tshirt, this used to take her exactly an hr and an half, and spend the rest of the hr in making some breakfast. Litts used to be next in line, followed by me who loved the Bathroom and given a chance I would want to remain in there through out the day. Ann/Rebi I cannot recall you guys having a bath in the morning :-). Shikks being the first one to go to bed and the last one to wake up, used to not believe in keeping alarms since Ann and I used to wake her up promptly at 7.15,she used to rush to the bathroom, take a shower I guess within exactly 2 mins and be ready the same time as me. Shikks were you actually taking a bath or just pouring water???

Now for my favourite part, our own Remzie, her cupboard had her clothes, her enamor bras neatly folded and ironed. She used to wake up, brush her pearly whites for an hr or so, put on her slip and open the front door, which had morning walkers/joggers staring at her. Oh it didn't bother her, cos she never had her glasses on. And then comes her Morning prayer, where she used ask God for all her sins to be forgiven I guess( hence took her an hr for the same), talk to HIM about the previous days events and then start dreaming with her eyes open, until we all yell at her to get out of the house.

Panicker's Wedding Bells...Ding! Dong!

Hei ho…hei ho…one more down and two more Velonies go!!!

There are the juicy details…

I reach Chennai on the evening of 5th,which was the evening of Shikks’ Sagai so she sent her driver to pick me up from the station. The driver promptly deposited me in front of Shoppers Stop (babs, you remember we shopped there the last time we were in Chennai) the place was closed but in 10 min Suni and Suresh were there to pick me. Once home, Suni fed me to a healthy diet of home cooked (courtesy excellent culinary skills of the maid) food and fresh episodes of Desperate Housewives.

Next morning we were supposed to go leave the house by 8 but it took me one hour to drape Suni’s sari which we first tried by doing it upside down because both the sides were the same. The pallu was coming on the right shoulder instead of the left…Suni kept insisting that it was the right way and if I had listened to her instead of following my instincts we would have had a fashion fiasco walking, talking at the marriage. We referred Suni’s marriage photograph and finally called Suni’s mum for her opinion. Finally we got the sari logistics right and left the house at 9 ….Suresh had work the entire day so he was unable to come for the marriage and the evening reception.

We reached the venue at around 10 AM, for the main part for the ceremony. Shikks was looking so serious that we could hardly recognise her. In fact I thought we had stepped into the wrong marriage hall. Then we saw Sonith and Rolla… she was looking so lovely with the mustard coloured sari and the Marathi headgear complete with the false hair and jasmine flowers.

Sometime during the ceremony Shikks stepped down from the marriage stage. We pounced on her…we even managed to take snaps with her....he he he.

Sudeep was totally chilled out. He didn’t scruple even to wave at us during the ceremony. We got to see the tying of the mangalsutra and poor Sudeep had to struggle through all that head gear and flowers and he had to put two of them on her. There was a very funny thing that happened…it was before the exchange of the garlands. The pandit had given a garland to Shikha’s dad and told him to give it to Sudeep. Her poor father misunderstood and proceeded to put the garland on Suds and our man was actually bowing down to receive it. Suddenly Sudeep’s dad frantically came and said –No No No…the groom has to put it on the bride!!!!

The whole wedding was long, long and long…even after we had lunch at 1:30; she had to change for the third time and there were still more ceremonies. This time she was in the white mallu sari and was looking divine.

The lunch was veggie and we mistook the ‘Yam Chops’ to be beef fry because it LOOKED like beef fry and it was done like beef fry, but it was only yam!!

The evening reception was better. We met Deepti and her 6 month old baby, Akshara, Maccha, Deepak and his fiancĂ©, Tresa, Sandeep, Tarun minus wife and of course Sonith. The draping of Suni’s sari was again courtesy mua…hmmm…I should start charging for my services for the next wedding…we had a good time bonding with each other till Suresh started calling Suni to remind her for a movie night show…Suni-Suresh have a weekly custom of catching the night show on Thursdays. This time even I was a part of the company.

We finished the dinner buffet in a jiffy and rushed from the reception venue to Inox.

We watched ‘Aaja Nachle’ in City Plaza (I think, that's what it is called).

Babs, you will remember this place. It was the lousy shopping complex shaped like some architectural wonder with invisible exists and NO AC; shikks, you, and I went there to the last time we were in Chennai.

And guys, irrespective of what the critics say, the movie was very good. I actually enjoyed it…we got home around 12:30 and after Suresh finished his midnight dinner; we slept at 2:00, up at 5 for my morning train.

You know what, it was raining through out my visit in Chennai and it rained the worst on Friday morning when I had to leave!!! Sheesh…

Btw, kindly admire the only snap that came out well in my camera phone, of Shikks and Suds.

I got one of Litty’s 21 diamonds pendent too!!! glitter-raz
